Terms & Conditions

POINTE WORKS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Staff/teachers:

All staff, including cover teachers, are qualified, experienced and DBS checked. Volunteer class assistants and trainees on placements over the age of 18 are all DBS checked. There is always a first aider on site.

Liability & Insurance:

Pointe Works holds the required ‘Dance Teachers Insurance Policy’ through Axa Insurance. This includes Public Liability Insurance up to £5M and Employers Liability Insurance up to £10M. This does not cover, loss or damage of student’s personal belongings while on the premises or Student Personal Accident. Pointe Works accepts no liability for any injuries sustained whilst participating in a class or on the premises. Please refer to the related Risk Assessment and Safe Dance Practice & Injury Prevention policies available at www.pointeworks.co.uk

Kinesthetic Corrections :

Students will from time to time receive kinesthetic corrections during their training. With their permission, it may be beneficial for them to receive physical guidance on their position. Kinesthetic learning encourages physical activity, bolsters cognitive, social, and emotional development. It enhances the brain's capacity to retain information, and develops not just one's individual capacities and strengths, but also one's self-confidence in those capacities.

If you do not wish your child to receive kinesthetic corrections during their lessons for any reason, please inform us immediately.

Supervision while on site:

Students must ensure they always get full permission from staff prior to leaving class. Pointe Works are unable to supervise children going to the toilet during lessons. Parents must wait on site should their child need support in this area.

Behaviour:

Racist, sexist, and other offensive language and behaviour is not tolerated. Intimidating and bullying behaviour towards staff is unacceptable and we reserve the right to terminate membership without notice. Behaviour of staff, parents and students must always follow our Code-of-Conduct and Behaviour Policies – see Behaviour Policy for Parents and Students, and Code of Professional Conduct, Code of Practice for Teachers at www.pointeworks.co.uk

Please note that under no circumstances are pets allowed on school premises due to Health and Safety reasons.

Observing Classes:

Parents of Pre-School Children are welcome to stay and watch the lessons. Once the children start school, parents are asked to wait outside of the classroom for the duration of the lesson. There will be a presentation class on the last lesson of each term which the parents are welcome to watch to see how the children are progressing with their dance training.  If a child is new or particularly unconfident, parents/carers may be allowed to sit in during the first class.

Photography and Filming:

Taking photos or film footage of the lessons is not permitted. Pointe Works will take photos at award ceremonies, shows, exam days and competitions. These photos are stored safely and can be viewed in the password protected section of the website. For more information, please see the GDPR Policy and Photography and Filming Policy at www.pointeworks.co.uk

Emergency contact number:

Pointe Works emergency mobile phone is kept with the Site Manager. The number will be given out upon registration and must only be used if there are problems regarding the collection of children.

Health:

Students are requested to stay at home if they are not feeling well, it is not advisable to exercise with a cold or cough. If your child has a fever, please keep them at home until they are better. Please do not attend classes if your child has an infectious disease such as Covid-19, Chickenpox or Hand Foot & Mouth. Children with diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from Pointe Works for 2 days after their symptoms have gone.

Uniform:

This is basic but essential and gives the students a sense of belonging, a sense of ritual and sense of dressing for something important – their class. Appropriate clothing is necessary for health and safety and child protection:

·       Ballet shoes are essential, it is not advisable to take part with bare feet.

·       Strictly no jewellery – no earrings (earrings are very unsafe during physical activity).

·       Hair must be tied back from the face for all classes – long hair preferably in a bun.

·       RAD Ballet: RAD approved uniform is required for exams.

Attendance:

Children must arrive and be collected promptly. It is very important that children arrive in time for their classes, ideally 5 minutes before the start. This allows the group time to settle from the moment the class starts.

Pointe Works will let people know of any changes in venue or class time at least one term ahead of schedule.

Payments

Fees are paid in advance of each term, after an initial 2 week settling period on joining the school where you can pay weekly if you wish. Lesson fees are subject to annual review in January of each year. Full payment must be received in advance to confirm a place. For all current students, courses must be registered in advance. Payment can be made up until the last day of the previous term to guarantee the place.

Non-payment

Failure to make payment before term starts may result in no place being available. If payment is outstanding, Pointe Works reserves the right to withhold services.

Cancellation

Occasionally some courses may be cancelled due to circumstances beyond Pointe Works control. In this rare case, a full refund will be given.

Pointe works reserves the right to cancel a course if there are fewer than four participants in the group and all efforts will be made to place a student in an alternative course or offer a refund where appropriate.

If a single class does not take place due to circumstances beyond our control, Pointe Works will offer a refund or reschedule.

Refunds

Pointe Works does not offer refunds of term fees if a decision is taken by the parent or student to discontinue lessons during the duration of the term. For new customers, the first two classes are considered ‘trial’ classes. If for any reason the course is not suitable, we ask to be notified before the third class.

Examinations

Examinations are offered to students when they have completed the recommended study hours. Eligibility for an examination is always the decision of the teacher rather than the parent or the child. Pointe Works will always act in the student’s best interest when it comes to entering them for RAD examinations.
